Current Students: Would you recommend where you live?
Current Students: Please leave a brief comment under this post that tells where you live and whether or not you would recommend it to an incoming student.
So I live here: http://www.apartmentratings.com/rate/NC-Raleigh-Clarion-Crossing.html
They have 1 bed (like mine) as well as multiple bedroom suits available. I haven't had any trouble with management, and when stuff breaks, they've come quickly to fix it. There's a pool that's closed far more than it should be, a mediocre exercise room, and a "cyber cafe" that consists of two computers with internet access and a free printer. I lived here last year and just re-upped for this year as well. Other students have lived here in the past and not hated it enough to move immediately. There's lots of trees, and my place gets plenty of shade, which is nice on cooling costs.
The location is pretty good. It's a straight shot up Avent Ferry to campus, and the Food Lion (which has a Wolfline stop) is within walking distance. There aren't any Wachovias near by, nor any good grocery stores (closest Harris Teeter is 5-10 minute drive), but the beltline and interstate are fairly close, and you can get to a big shopping center called Crossroads that has stuff like Target, Old Navy, a movie theater, etc. with a quick drive. So there's that.
All in all, I'd recommend it. Drop me an email if you want to ask me any questions!

It's about a 10 minute drive from campus (6 miles). It's right on the 440 beltline (literally) and behind this shopping center called North Hills.
I have lived here for over a year (I signed a new lease also) and I love it here. My main concern about finding a new place was the pest problem because I had just moved from VA from a roach infested place (I even saw rats at the dumpsters) and it was an absolute nightmare. Anyway, I asked two of my friends who lived here (one still does) and neither had any problems with pests so I decided to move here.
The Good: The apartments are really cheap because they are old (but in a good way with new appliances) and any other apartment (or condo) in this area will cost a fortune.
The maintenance staff is really great and friendly.
It's really safe, no crime, quiet.
They're really lax about the rent too, so even if you're over the 5 day grace period, they may slap you over the head, but that's about it (kidding).
I'm older, so I wanted to live in a quite place away from all the students, that's why I tried to look for a place outside the beltline.
The Bad: The laundry facility stinks. It's cheaper than the laundromat, but they only have 4 washers and 3 dryers (how can you have unequal washers and dryers? doesn't make sense to me) which are ALWAYS in use. The bigger apts and townhomes come with washers/dryers (or connections).
The smaller one bedrooms are REALLY small. At first it was ok for me, but as time has gone by and I collected more and more junk, it's become a little crowded in here.
You pretty much HAVE to drive to school. Even though it's close, there's no bus that is direct. To ride the bus, you'd have have to ride for 2 miles, walk about a mile and a half to another stop, then ride another 2 miles. A 10 minute car trip could easily turn into an hour commute.
Also, I don't think it's bad, but I do want to mention, there's no clubhouse, no pool, no facilities like that. I think it's good, because you don't have to pay for it in rent and you can get all of the stuff they offer in a clubhouse at school, but it can be a bad thing to some people.

It is located on the corner of Gorman Street and Avent Ferry…which is sort of the epicenter of graduate student housing south of campus (slightly more than a mile from school). I am within walking distance of food lion(grocery store), a running, and the wolfline bus stop is right next to the complex.
They offer 3 bedroom apartments, but, lease out the rooms individually. Each room gets its own bathroom and cost $425/month all utilities included. The rooms are pretty big, and the kitchen/living area is ok sized. We have laundry machine, wireless internet(which isn’t great), and dishwasher…
The complex is fairly new… I haven’t had any problems with pests and it is pretty quiet… Except for a few weekend nights.
I went in without knowing anyone, got 2 random roommates and it has worked out well… but it’s a gamble. I think this would be a great place to live if you were looking with another person(or 2).
